Why Elephants have Long Trunks

A Pourquoi Tale

In French, pourquoi means why. Pourquoi stories are the genre of tales/ legends that explain why something in the natural world is the way it is. it usually describes something in nature, especially animals. The story is fictitious till the end. these tales often start in the past and end when the explanation is complete.

A long, long ago, in a part of a forest called Jungle’s Peace, there lived an elephant call Ella. She simply loved a specific type of berry called Jungle Berry. It was perfect. It was sweet and sour at the same time. And it was really chewy and sweet smelling.

On a very pleasant morning, Ella was really troubled as she had just had 5 rotten Bumblegross bird’s egg. So her breath was stinky. That is why nobody wanted to go near her. Ella felt like a total stranger. Not even one best-friend wanted to come near her. There was only one thing that will freshen her mouth. It was Jungle Berry! But there was one problem. The berries were on the topmost branches of the the tree and Ella could not reach them!

Ella decided to climb the tree to get the berries. But she kept slipping and landed with a thud on her back. Groaning shot got up and massaged herself and got back to work. She tried to shake the tree but more eggs fell on her from a nearby nest. Disgusted she took a bath in Cherry Brook and cam back. She tried to jump and get Jungle Berry. She kept jumping but she fell down and twisted her ankle. She had to visit the doctor and spray Minty Relief on it whenever it hurt. Then she decided to swing on the branches and her short nose got caught in a little gap. She pulled and pulled, then suddenly she fell down and her nose was as long as the tree trunk. She became anxious but she realised it would be handy. So she named her long nose, a trunk. The reason elephants have grey lines in their trunks is because of the cuts she got when she tried to swing on the tree. Soon she was the most stylish animal in not only Jungle’s Peace, but the whole jungle!

So from then on, elephants have trunks and not short noses. They spray and reach everything even if it was in the topmost branch.
